Royal Yachting association (RYA)

 

Power boat level II

There are no eligibility requirements to take this course.

 

Yachtmaster offshore

This is split in to two parts a theory and a practical.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

2500 sea miles, with at least half being tidal miles, 50 days at sea, (5 as skipper*) 5 passages over 60nm including:2 overnight passages and2 skipper passages

*Equivalent experience can be considered

Commercial Endorsement: First Aid certificate (elementary module of STCW ok), VHF Licence, Sea Survival Certificate, Medical Fitness Certificate.

 

Yachtmaster Ocean

This is split in to two parts a theory and the sights.

MCA yacht certificates for Deck and Command staff

 

Sea service record (Note)


A day at sea is any day the the yacht leaves port or is at sea. A month is 30 days. To prove this you will need to show either a Yacht service testimonials, signed by the Master or a fully audited PYA Service Record Book.

Eligibility requirements:

Minimum age 16

Valid UK Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG1)

MCA Training Record Book

Minimum 6 months service including 2 months sea service over on vessels 15 metres or over in loadline length.

 

OOW, Officer of the watch (Yacht)(MGN 195)


Commercial and private yachts and sail training vessels less than 3000gt - unlimited area.

 

Eligibility requirements:
Minimum age 19
Valid UK Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG1)
MCA Training Record Book
Minimum 36 months service (over age 16) on vessels 15 metres or over in loadline length.

OOW (Yacht) certificate
Valid UK Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG1)
Yachtmaster Ocean – course and COC
MCA Advanced Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/3)
MCA Medical First Aid (STCW A-VI/4-1)

 

Master 200gt (Yacht)(MIN 202)


Commercial and Private yachts and sail training vessels less than 200gt – upgrade from Yachtmaster Offshore/Ocean

 

Eligibility requirements:
Personal survival techniques (Ref A-VI/1-1)
Fire prevention and fire fighting (Ref A-VI/1-2)
Elementary first aid (Ref A-VI/1-3)
Personal safety & Social responsibility (Ref A-VI/1-4)
Hold MCA accepted GMDSS (ROC) or (GOC)
Depending on are of operation a certificate of Proficiency in Medical First Aid or Proficiency in Medical Care.

Master 500gt (Yacht)(MGN 195)


Commercial and Private yachts and sail training vessels less than 500gt – unlimited area

 

Eligibility requirements:
Minimum 21 years old
Valid UK Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG1)
Meet minimum requirements for Chief Mate (Yacht)
12 months as Bridge Watchkeeper on vessels over 15 metres whilst holding an OOW (Yacht)
MCA Proficiency for Persons in Charge of Medical Care on Board Ship (STCW A-V/4-2)
MCA Seamanship and Meteorology (Master, Yacht)
MCA Stability (Master, Yacht)
MCA Business and Law (Master, Yacht)
MCA Navigation, ARPA and Radar Simulator (Master, Yacht)

Master 3000gt (Yacht)(MGN 195)


Commercial and private operated yachts and sail training vessels less than 3000gt – unlimited area
 

Eligibility requirements:
Minimum 23 years old
Valid UK Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG1)
24 months service as Bridge Watchkeeper on vessels over 15 metres whilst holding an OOW (Yacht)
Above sea service and Master less than 500gt education and training Proficiency for Persons in Charge of Medical Care on Board Ship (STCW A-VI/4-2)

Approved engine course (AEC) (MGN 156)

 

Eligibility requirements:
Minimum age 18
One month’s service as yacht engineer (unless some formal engineer craft training)

Marine engine operator license (MEOL)(MGN 156)

 

Eligibility requirements:
Minimum age 18

36 months of service as dual deck/engineer officer whilst holding an AEC OR 24 months service as yacht engineer whilst holding an AEC

Eligibility requirements:
Minimum age 19
Valid UK Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG 1)
Notice of Eligibility (NOE)
42 months service as yacht engineer with at least six months actual sea service OR UK engineering craft apprenticeship plus 12 months service as yacht engineer (with at least six months actual sea service) OR 12 months service as yacht engineer (with at least six months actual sea service) whilst holding a MEOL (Yacht)

Yacht 1 – Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency Reg. III/2 (MGN 156)

 

Eligibility requirements:
Valid UK Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG 1)
Notice of Eligibility (NOE)
Yacht 2
12 months service as a yacht engineer on a motor yacht of between 500 to 3,000 gt and not less than 3,000 kW propulsion power, whilst holding a Yacht
OR
12 months service as a yacht engineer on a sailing yacht of between 1,000 to 3,000 gt and not less than 1,500 kW propulsion power, whilst holding a Yacht 2
